Building the Future: Higher Education, Innovation, and Talent in Greater Kansas City

Wednesday, September 9, 2026 (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM) (CDT)

Description

As Kansas City transitions from hosting the world during the 2026 FIFA World CupTM to competing for the world’s talent, investment, and innovation, the region stands at a defining moment. The unprecedented global visibility generated by the World Cup presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to position Greater Kansas City as a premier destination for higher education, career opportunities, entrepreneurship, and quality of life.

This KC Chamber Higher Education Forum will explore how colleges and universities across the region can capitalize on this momentum to elevate Kansas City’s national and global reputation. The conversation will focus on the critical role higher education plays in driving innovation, strengthening the workforce pipeline, supporting research and entrepreneurship, and preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving economy.

The forum will also highlight the growing collaboration taking place among institutions across the Kansas City region. Rather than competing in isolation, area colleges and universities are increasingly working together - alongside business, civic, and community leaders - to advance shared priorities tied to talent attraction, workforce readiness, research partnerships, and regional competitiveness.

Representatives from area educational institutions will be on hand throughout the event to answer questions and connect attendees with undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and professional degree programs available across the region. The program will provide students, parents, employers, and community stakeholders with an opportunity to better understand the breadth of educational pathways and innovation assets shaping Kansas City’s future.

As the region looks beyond 2026, this forum will examine how higher education can help ensure Kansas City emerges not only as a successful host city but as a globally competitive center for learning, talent development, innovation, and economic opportunity.
