SUMMARY:The State of Series - Transit
DESCRIPTION:IN PERSON REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. WE ARE OFFERING A VIRTUAL OPTION AND REGISTRATION FOR THAT OPTION IS OPEN BELOW. IF YOU ARE A SPONSOR OF THE STATE OF SERIES EVENTS\, PLEASE EMAIL DBENNETT@KCCHAMBER.COM TO RESERVE YOUR IN-PERSON SPOTS.The 2026 FIFA World Cup gave Kansas City a firsthand look at what is possible when the region comes together around transportation. More than 800\,000 people attended World Cup matches and FIFA Fan Festival activities\, while new and expanded transit services connected visitors and residents across the metropolitan area. The KC Streetcar alone set a monthly ridership record in June\, demonstrating the demand that can emerge when convenient transportation options are available.Now\, the question is what comes next. As Kansas City seeks to build on the global visibility\, economic activity and regional collaboration generated by the World Cup\, transportation will be an important part of the region's ability to compete for talent\, businesses\, investment and future major events. For employers\, a strong regional mobility network can expand access to jobs\, connect workers to opportunity\, improve the customer and visitor experience\, and support growth across the metropolitan area. The World Cup demonstrated the value of a coordinated\, multimodal approach\; now Kansas City has an opportunity to consider which lessons should become part of the region's long-term transportation strategy. We'll hear from Jeremy Martin\, President and CEO of the Austin Chamber of Commerce\, about the Austin experience and convene a panel discussion with Kansas City regional transit leaders. Together\, we'll explore what the business community should expect from the region's transportation system and how business and civic leaders can help shape a connected\, competitive Kansas City for the years ahead.Keynote: Jeremy Martin\, Incoming President and CEO\, Austin Chamber of CommerceThe business community and transit agencies in Austin have collaborated on a long-term strategy to establish a shared vision for the community's transportation future. Jeremy Martin\, President and CEO of the Austin Chamber of Commerce\, will share Austin's experience and lessons learned from bringing business and transportation leaders together around a common regional strategy. His perspective will provide a useful comparison as Kansas City considers how to build on the regional cooperation and transportation innovations developed for the World Cup and translate that momentum into lasting economic and community benefits.\nPanel DiscussionModerator: Julie Lorenz\, Principal Consultant\, 1898 & Co.Panelists:Ron Achelpohl\, Director\, Transportation & Environment\, Mid-America Regional Council Tom Gerend\, Executive Director\, Kansas City Streetcar AuthorityJeremy Martin\, President and CEO\, Austin Chamber of CommerceIncoming\, President & CEO\, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority Please join us in the KC Chamber Board Room for an engaging and informative session over breakfast.Part of the KC Chamber's "State of Series" addressing key topics facing the business community in our region.2026 State of Series Presented By Arvest Bank\, McCownGordon Construction\, Panasonic\, The University of Kansas Health System\, and UMB Bank
