Before being elected to the Senate\, she served in the Missouri House of Representatives for three years.\n\nSenator Washington proudly supports increased economic development in her district\, including preserving Kansas City's 18th & Vine district. She also advocates passionately for increased funding for educational opportunities and universal health care for all. In her district\, she regularly presents programs to focus on the importance of small business development\, juvenile justice reform\, minority mental health awareness\, crime reduction\, and environmental preservation.\nRepublican Senator Mike Cierpiot was elected to serve in the Missouri Senate during the November 2017 special election. He represents the 8th Senatorial District\, covering Eastern Jackson County.Before his time in the Missouri Senate\, Senator Cierpiot served seven years in the Missouri House of Representatives. There he served as the assistant majority floor leader for three years and was later elected to serve as the majority floor leader until th the end of his tenure in the Missouri House.
