As in previous years, our policymaker guests will discuss the session's early work, perspectives, and priorities. They will take your questions and comments about important policy issues, committee work, and the General Assembly.
About Our Speakers
Dr. Jon Patterson, a Republican, represents District 30, which includes parts of Lee’s Summit. He was elected to his first two-year term in November of 2018. Rep. Patterson currently serves as Speaker of the House. Rep. Patterson is a 1998 graduate of Blue Springs High School. He then attended the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he earned both his bachelor's and medical degrees. After medical school, Dr. Patterson completed his surgical residency at University Health in downtown Kansas City. Dr. Patterson practiced general surgery in eastern Jackson County from 2011-2022. Rep. Patterson lives in Lee’s Summit with his wife, Jennifer. They have two children, Leah and Andrew. In his spare time, Dr. Patterson enjoys family time, reading, and golf. Dr. Patterson is committed to public service through medical missions. He has completed surgical mission trips around the world, including to the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Jordan.
Representative Ashley Aune, a Democrat, represents parts of Platte County (District 14) in the Missouri House of Representatives, including Kansas City, Weatherby Lake, and Lake Waukomis. Aune was elected to her first term in 2020 and re-elected in 2022 and 2024. After serving a term as Minority Whip, her Democratic colleagues elected her as House Minority Leader for the current General Assembly. She also serves as an ex officio member of all House committees. During her first term in office, she was appointed by Gov. Mike Parson to the Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission, where she worked with military and civilian leaders across the state to make Missouri the most welcoming place for active duty and retired military members and their families. She is currently co-chair of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Technology Caucus. Prior to politics, Representative Aune worked in marketing and owned her own agency. She received a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas with a minor in English.
